Caitlyn Jenner caused some confusion and upset a number of people following an appearance on The Ellen Show where she spoke about gay marriage and basically told the gay talk show host that she wasn’t sure about gay marriage and how she felt about it. In other words at the time, she definitely wasn’t all for it.
Fast forward alienating millions of people, Ellen DeGeneres speaking out about her confusing statement and we have Jenner changing her mind about how she feels about gay marriage. In a blog post on her website, CaitlynJenner.com, she wrote about the topic saying:
“Like many people, there was a time when I didn’t realize how important it is for gay couples to have the right to get married. But after hearing from my gay friends and learning more about the hardships they faced because of discrimination, it became clear to me that everyone should be able to marry the person they love. I can only hope that by sharing my story, there’s someone out there whose mind has been changed about trans people.”
People felt so strongly about Jenner’s stance on gay marriage because as a transgender woman she would know best how difficult it is to be discriminated against because of who you are or who you love. Caitlyn did say, “we all have stuff to deal with in our lives. To have the courage to overcome obstacles and be your authentic self is an amazing process to go through.”
While it may be amazing, it is also beyond difficult. Life is not always easy and being judged while going through whatever you may be going through only makes it harder. As Caitlyn said in her blog, “I want you to believe in yourself and know that you can deal with it. You can be okay.” Not only can you be okay – you will be okay.
